Hattie I have moved house! I also commissioned the loveliest group of writers for Spring’s issue of Opera Now, which came out a few days ago. Walking in the park and watching documentaries about opioids has taken up the latter part of January… I have a growing list of music I want to learn on both my electric bass and cello - it reminds me of that excited ‘zone’ feeling I used to experience at school when practicing and exploring new music. Jocelyn Hagen’s miniatures for solo cello are the current project. What I’m currently reading Very very little! I re-read A Room of One’s Own recently and was much restored! Favourite concert/event of the month I haven’t been to any events in the last month… and I think it’s been important to take a step back! Lots of exciting concerts coming up though… Becca January’s been simultaneously quiet and busy. I feel like I’m coming out of some kind of long, mild depression which feels weird in the midst of the dark and the cold, but very welcome of course. I’ve taken a load more teaching, am socialising more and really diving head first into my counselling course right now so am feeling very fulfilled. Frighteningly I have no gigs in the diary but I’m trusting the process and trusting my stubbornness to be authentic right now. What I’m currently reading I finally finished How the World Thinks by Julian Baggini and actually ended up loving it! With current counselling assignments, I’ve been flicking through more of Carl Rogers’ work and Anne Kearney’s short book Class, Counselling & Politics. Good reads all round. Favourite concert/event of the month I haven’t been to any concerts or events yet this month but Stu and I did go to see Bradley Cooper’s Maestro which we loved. I utterly adored the complex lens through which Bernstein was portrayed, and I got absolute CHILLS listening to that soundtrack through the cinema speakers. ————————————————————————————
